What is UVBI Therapy?

Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UVBI) is a medical procedure where a small amount of a patient’s blood is taken out, exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, and then returned to the body. This process takes place externally. The purpose of UVBI is to trigger a therapeutic response by letting UV light interact with the blood.

How it works/What to expect

  • The patient will receive an IV, blood is removed from the patient.

  • The blood will pass through the hemalumen being treated with UVA, UVC, Red, Green, Blue, and Amber light. The blood is then given back. This process occurs 7 times.
